I LIKE THESE BRANDS ON TIKTOK.

A brand’s tone of voice allows consumers to differentiate themselves from other brands.

Through the tone of voice, you can assume the personality and values a brand is trying to demonstrate to its audience.

So, in other words, you should be able to distinguish what brands target Boomer Babies versus which target Generation Z; or which brands have a more conservative or traditional outlook versus brands with a liberal unorthodox perspective.

I am a proud member of Gen Z and these are a few brands that I love on TikTok:

@DuoLingo

Duolingo is an excellent example of a brand on TikTok making responsive and engaging posts through the brand's tone. Their TikToks are usually made with their mascot recreating trends, dancing and more. Their tone is light-hearted and friendly!

I believe they were one of the first notable brands on TikTok besides sports teams to show up with a mascot to create content with.

Even a credit card brand geared toward post-secondary students has its mascot!

Ikea, Hootsuite, and Scrub Daddy also have mascots. Having a mascot is an easy way to personify a brand without having a brand ambassador. It is genius.

@Barbie

On TikTok, the Barbie brand is good at subtle and blatant product placement in its videos. They do a lot of "trend-coded" videos using Barbie dolls, as in they produce content typically trending from various corners of the TikTok universe—I.e. Podcasts, ASMR, Vlogs, Skits, Challenges and more.

They present themselves as a kid-friendly and positive channel overall.

And I always sit and watch the whole TikTok, even if it is uninteresting. Why?

Because there was a group of people who had a meeting; they came up with a script, got props and voice actors, then filmed and edited such tedious videos using dolls.

Dolls.

And @Bratz has some hits too.

@noname.brands

The No Name brand––social media aside, is just iconic.

So put them on social media, *chefs-kiss*. They are direct, and I love them for that. It's so simple, but you know who the brand is. They have remained consistent with all their marketing campaigns.

Just look at their TikTok page. Or any of their social media pages!

Honourary Mentions

These TikTok accounts are location-specific branded accounts.

These pages show the employees running these stores in a fun, happy and humanizing light. I would have loved to do this with my teams at the retail store or restaurants I worked for.

We love a happy and actual family-like environment in the workplace.
